Eve’s Memoir Spills Some Wild Tea: Romance with Suge Knight Was Supposed to Be Revenge but It Backfired

Eve just proved that sometimes, the only drama you need comes from your own diary. In her memoir Who’s That Girl?, the Grammy winning rapper dishes on a brief, but chaotic romance with Death Row founder Suge Knight that shook her career more than any punchline (figuratively speaking) could.

According to Rap Up, she writes that the flirtation started backstage at the 2001 Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards because when life gives you awkward tension with Dr. Dre, why not dial up his ex-boss at Death Row? “I was in a mood about Dre,” she confesses. “Having Suge stomping around Interscope felt like sweet revenge.” But that revenge plot twisted straight into a rebound gone wrong when Jimmy Iovine allegedly punished her on the Eve-Olution album rollout.

Eve doesn’t hold back. She credits Ruff Ryders co-founders Dee and Waah Dean with yanking Knight off her radar, and plot twist, Suge basically respects the exit: “If I was your little sis, I would tell you the same thing,” he said.

In a memoir living up to its title, Eve doesn’t just reflect, she redeems. She goes from hip hop’s “First Lady” to wise queen who knows that vengeance is messy business, especially when career collateral is on the line.
