Khalid Goes All In: Gay Times Cover and the Power of Truth

He’s publicly owning his identity. His Music just got sharper.

Khalid landed the cover of Gay Times and it’s not a passive flex. It’s a statement, one that signals he’s done playing it safe. Less than a year after an ex outed him online, the singer now officially names himself gay and uses this moment to reframe his narrative.

In the interview, Khalid lays it down plain. His forthcoming album, after the sun goes down, is more than music, it’s liberation. He’s leaning into duality: feminine traits and masculine energy exist side by side. He insists that embracing so-called “feminine qualities” doesn’t strip you of manhood. Instead it makes you more whole.

He also talks about filming a music video with a male love interest. No awkwardness, no overthinking. He says doing that felt natural, electric, even “spicy.” He uses “gagged” (yes, he went there) to describe the thrill.

We can’t ignore the backstory. Khalid was thrust into this chapter when his past became public, when he was outed. He’s addressed that head-on, calling it “nasty” but also “a blessing in disguise” for pushing him into clarity. Now he’s choosing his own voice, using “he/him” pronouns in his lyrics for the first time.
