Teyana Taylor Pays $70K to Close the Book And Calls It the ‘Best Lil’ Coin I Ever Spent’

Teyana Taylor put a hefty price tag on her freedom from headlines, speculation, and lingering court drama. The “Maybe” crooner was held in contempt after going live on Instagram and breaking a gag order about her split from ex-husband Iman Shumpert. That slip? It rang her to the tune of $70,000 in legal fees, a cost she now unabashedly calls the “best lil’ coin I ever spent.”

In her Breakfast Club appearance, Teyana didn’t exactly flinch. When co-host Jess Hilarious pointed out that her divorce drama pops up every time she’s promoting music, Taylor laughed it off, “that was part of the bait I bit.” She explained that despite her usual silence, she went live to push back against nasty rumors implying she was leeching off Iman’s cash, claims she emphatically denied.

The judge ruled her IG Live not only violated their private divorce terms, but also lacked substantial proof to accuse Shumpert of leaking details himself. As a result, she’s on the hook for his legal tab. But Teyana? She’s fine with it, because for her, peace was priceless.

Now, with that chapter legally and emotionally closed (or at least more quiet), Taylor is focused on brighter things like her music. She just dropped her album Escape Room after a five year hiatus, complete with a short film featuring LaKeith Stanfield and her new beau, British actor Aaron Pierre. It’s a bold, beautiful reboot and apparently, worth every penny.
