Okay, we’ve got déjà vu meets redemption. Drake’s trading arenas for hallways again. In the freshly dropped trailer for Degrassi: Whatever It Takes, he’s back at his origin point, Degrassi’s iconic halls. But this time? He’s reflective, raw, and still surprisingly grounded.

Premiering at TIFF this September 13, the doc directed by Lisa Rideout rounds up generations of Degrassi alums like Stefan Brogren, Shenae Grimes Beech, Miriam McDonald, and, of course, Drizzy himself. Imagine hospital drama meets teen soap, but with actual vulnerability and no artistic filter.
Teenage Drake admits, “I didn’t have a great time in high school… I just didn’t really fit in.” Then, in classic overnight change style, his mom delivers the life altering news: “You got the role.” And that one call? “Man, what a wild journey that started.”
Degrassi made taboo topics like teen pregnancy, mental health, and drug use mainstream long before it was “brave.” It gave young stars and viewers a stage to be messy, honest, and real.

Degrassi culture did more than spark careers it shaped empathy. Creator Linda Schuyler even admits they didn’t always get it right, but their intentions were unfiltered and bold.
