Judge Tells A$AP Relli He Might Be Digging His Own Grave in Lawsuit Against A$AP Rocky

A$AP Relli, born Terell Ephron, is staring down a judge’s warning that the civil case he’s considering against A$AP Rocky could cost him far more than he bargained for. The judge urged Relli to consider settling instead of charging ahead full steam with defamation and civil assault claims.

Relli claims that after the criminal trial failed to convict Rocky of felony assault charges, Rocky and his attorney falsely painted him as a con man. He is now thinking about suing for defamation and battery. But during a recent court hearing Judge Randolph M. Hammock warned that if the lawsuit continues, Relli could end up owing Rocky’s legal fees, “tens of thousands, easily,” the judge said.

Add to that Relli is already in over US$500,000 in legal debt. His law firm has dropped him, and he is now representing himself. He says he’s “just fighting for my rights here.”

Here is what we do know, Rocky was found not guilty in his felony case earlier this year after being accused of firing a semiautomatic firearm during a confrontation with Relli in 2021. Rocky’s defense claimed the gun was a prop and that Relli was exaggerating or mischaracterizing the events.

…And what we don’t know is if Relli will press forward with this new civil suit, how strong his evidence is now, what sort of settlement Rocky might accept, or whether the warning from Judge Hammock will chill his resolve.

The legal world isn’t for the faint of heart. Relli could be making a moral claim and seeking justice in his view. But financially this could turn into a minefield. With half a million already spent, with no legal team backing him, and with a judge clearly suggesting the risk of owing serious fees, this might be one of those cases where “walking away” is smarter than “standing up.” If Relli presses on, this case might not just test the truth of his claims, it will test how much he is willing to lose.
