Niyi Akinmolayan’s “Colours of Fire” Teaser Ignites Foreshadowed Chaos & Forbidden Love

Expect rivalry, romance, prophecy and cinematic color this December, Niyi stakes bold claims for Nollywood’s next must see.

Director Niyi Akinmolayan is back, and he’s bringing flames. The newly released teaser for Colours of Fire promises a holiday film drenched in passion, tension, and high stakes.

Scheduled to hit cinemas nationwide on December 24, the movie is a collaboration between FilmOne Entertainment, FilmOne Studios, and Anthill Studios. The cast is stacked: Osas Ighodaro, Uzor Arukwe, Mercy Aigbe, Femi Branch, Gabriel Afolayan, and Ibrahim Chatta bring life (and a little chaos) to a story that centers on two rivals whose fiery romance threatens to dismantle an empire.

From the teaser, we meet a world of power plays and dangerous attraction. Sparks fly early, loyalties shift, and the prophecy hanging over it all hints at forces beyond love and betrayal. Akinmolayan describes the film as “a story that feels like home but looks like the world”, bold, colorful, unapologetically Nigerian.

This is not just another romance. This is ambition flirting with danger. Themes of legacy, sacrifice, identity, and destiny pulse through what appears to be more than cinematic spectacle. It wants to do more than entertain, it wants to resonate.

Niyi is no stranger to high-concept films. His past works include Prophetess and My Village People. With Colours of Fire, he seems ready to push Nollywood’s boundaries as always, in genre, scale, and visual storytelling.

If the teaser is anything to go by, December cinema just got a little more intense. This one is bold, unashamed, electric. And we are here for every burning frame.
