Soulja Boy’s Quick Bailout, Released After Felon-in-Possession Gun Charge Dropped

Soulja Boy, the “Crank That” legend is out after a brief stint behind bars. He was arrested this past Sunday in Los Angeles during a traffic stop near Melrose Avenue. Police, citing his status as a felon, suspected him of possessing a firearm and booked him accordingly.

But like a beat dropping too soon, the case didn’t stick. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles District Attorney quietly dropped the charge, citing insufficient evidence. According to Billboard, Soulja’s attorney argued the gun wasn’t his, and prosecutors agreed. In other words, he should never have been in cuffs.

He marked his release with a minimalist but unapologetic social media post: “First day out” on Instagram Story. Bold, messy, and straight from the culture.

Of course, this chapter isn’t clean. Earlier this year, a civil jury ordered him to pay over $4 million, a verdict he’s vocally fighting after being held liable for sexual assault and emotional distress. Soulja Boy’s hands may not have been tied this time, but his history isn’t clean. The headline here? Even when you’re trending in status and receipts, the courthouse can still set you free, for now.
