Drake Takes Rap War to Court: Sues UMG, Demands Kendrick’s Contract and CEO’s Emails Over ‘Not Like Us’ Bombshell

What started as a savage musical feud has officially turned courtroom drama. Drake is now suing Universal Music Group (UMG), his own parent label, after allegations that they helped promote Kendrick Lamar’s viral diss track “Not Like Us” to defame him. (Yes, it’s as wild as it sounds.)

In his latest legal move, Drake has requested access to Kendrick Lamar’s Interscope contract and, yes, the personal emails of UMG CEO Lucian Grainge. According to court filings, the document he did receive was so heavily redacted, it’s practically unreadable. Drake’s team claims this isn’t accidental, it’s calculated.

Drake alleges the label “green-lit” the defamatory lyrics, complete with that incendiary “Certified pedophiles” line and amplified the song via bots, payola, and high-profile placements (hello, Super Bowl). All this, he argues, was a strategic power play to undercut his brand during contract talks.

UMG is pushing back hard, calling the lawsuit baseless and accusing Drake of trying to “save face” after losing the rap battle. Their lawyers have already filed a motion to dismiss the case.

This isn’t just rap drama, it’s a legal untangling of fame, power, and contracts. Drake is demanding receipts from the industry he helped build, and UMG isn’t going down without swinging. Stay tuned, this beef just went federal.
