Lil OT’s Last Verse: Hamilton Rapper Gunned Down in Burlington Mall Parking Lot

Ontario’s hip-hop scene reels as rising artist Lil OT loses life in a brutal, targeted shooting

Hamilton’s own Omer Niaz Muhammad, the 24-year-old rapper known as Lil OT, was shot and killed late Monday night in the parking lot of Burlington Centre Mall in Burlington, Ontario. What was meant to be another stop in the journey of an emerging artist ended in tragedy, leaving fans, friends, and the local music scene in shock and mourning.

Police were called just after 10:10 P.M. on February 9, 2026, after reports of gunshots near the mall’s car park at 777 Guelph Line. First responders found Lil OT with critical gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a hospital where he later died, his life cut painfully short. Authorities describe the shooting as a targeted attack, not random violence, and two suspects fled the scene in a white SUV. No arrests have been made yet.

Lil OT had earned respect and a growing following in the Ontario hip-hop community. He wasn’t a global superstar yet, but his mixtape JamesVille pulled in millions of streams and his tracks stirred conversation online. His social media presence was real and authentic, with over 27,000 Instagram followers and tens of thousands of plays on Spotify and YouTube. He was working on a new album titled Invisible Scars.

His music spoke plainly about life on the streets, the hunger for success, and the very real dangers that come with it. In one of his final interviews, he warned young artists and fans that life outside the studio can be far from glamorous. “A lot of these young boys joining the streets think it’s fun out here,” he said, “It’s not fun out here.”

This was not Lil OT’s first brush with violence. In 2023, more than 50 shots were fired at his family’s home in Hamilton in a drive-by attack. Miraculously his relatives escaped unhurt that night, but the message of danger was clear long before Monday’s deadly shooting.

Fans and fellow artists have taken to social media to express grief and frustration. His death serves as another stark reminder of how gun violence continues to stalk young creatives and communities. Police are urging witnesses with dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward. As the investigation unfolds, the Burlington and Hamilton music worlds are left asking the same questions: who pulled the trigger and why, and what might have been if Lil OT had lived to see his next tour, his next track, his next verse.
